President George Bush has been to Tanzania in Africa from February, 16th to 19th 2008.
When in Washington DC, before his departure for this trip he said:
`When businesses in Africa can sell their products and services around the globe they create a culture of self-reliance and opportunity.”
The US president was optmistic that in the long run, the best way to lift lives in Africa is to tear down barriers to investment and trade around the world, in other words to give Africa and Africans the opportunity to sell their products to other countries in the world.
In fact, the President observed that Africa is changing as a new generation of African leaders is stepping forward and turning their continent around, adding that international organisations and faith-based groups and the private sector are more engaged than ever.
I am one among the faith-based leaders who share the vision of President Bush about Africa. I was born in Africa and was raised in Africa. My profession, as a faith-based leader brought me to America five years ago. I know the misery of Africa. I know the needs of Africa not by hear-say, but by own personal experience. I want to be among those who desire to bring positive changes on the face of Africa, an Africa that has been torn by poverty, deceases and ignorance.
Tanzania is classified by the World Bank and the World Health Organization as the poorest nation not only in Africa, but in the entire world. Heart disease is the number two cause of death, claming 287 lives a day or 104,755 lives a year. In the whole of Tanzania, a country of over 40 million people, there is no specialized cardiac treatment facility. The majority of people, who can not afford such treatment since it has to be done overseas, are like condemned to death. This is the problem I am trying to address among many others in initiating this business.
Last year 2007 with a group of friends, I founded a non-profit organization with name: Tanzanian Cardiac Hospital Foundation. Our organization is committed to build a hospital specializing in heart dicease treatment, as well as the treatment of other chronic diseases like malaria. Our goal is to raise money, to build a cardiac and general hospital to allow our human family in Tanzania to raise their children without fear of premature death.
